Remove XMP generation parameters
What is actually inside XMP
XMP is an XML metadata standard led by Adobe and supported by nearly every image tool. For generators it became a convenient notepad, so the whole generation process gets written into it:
- The full prompt and the negative prompt
- The random seed — with it, the same image can be reproduced
- Model version and weights
- Generation parameters: steps, sampler, CFG scale, aspect ratio
- Reference image URIs, style references, workflow version
- Sometimes the account identifier and the generation time
For a creator this is an asset-leak problem: a competitor who gets your product image can read the prompt and the model behind it, and even the path to reproducing it. For a platform, the same block is the evidence for an AI label.
Why EXIF is kept
XMP and EXIF are separate blocks, and either one can be removed alone. This page keeps EXIF by default — camera body, lens and exposure all stay; only XMP and C2PA go. That is the friendliest default for a photographer delivering files to a client.
Note that the Software field inside EXIF can also name an AI editor. If you want that gone as well, use the AI-only mode.
The PNG exception
Stable Diffusion tooling usually skips XMP and writes parameters into PNG tEXt / iTXt chunks instead, under a keyword normally called parameters. This tool removes those too — you do not have to tell it which kind of file you have.
