Remove the “AI generated” label from TikTok videos

When TikTok shows “contains AI-generated media”, the source may be C2PA inside a cover JPG, or a tag inside the MP4 container. The two have to be handled separately.

Photo mode reads image metadata; video reads container tags; the cover is its own file

The same image in different slots — feed, story, cover — may be three separate files, and each one has to be handled.

What the platform reads

Entry pointNotes
Photo modeReads C2PA and XMP from the JPG / PNG
Video containerReads udta / meta / uuid (C2PA) in the MP4
Custom coverA separate JPG that needs its own clean
CapCut exportThe container usually carries editor and template info

Pre-upload checklist

  1. 1
    1. Run the video through the container cleaner to drop udta / meta
  2. 2
    2. Run the cover JPG through the image cleaner
  3. 3
    3. Clean each Photo-mode image individually
  4. 4
    4. Re-check both the video and the cover afterwards
  5. 5
    5. Upload that copy, with no editor or forwarding in between

Common traps

  • Cleaning the video but not the cover — by far the most common cause
  • Re-exporting from CapCut writes the editor info back
  • Videos uploaded straight from the phone gallery may be re-wrapped by the OS

If it is still flagged after cleaning

That means the trigger was never in the file metadata. It could be an invisible pixel-level watermark, the platform's own visual classifier, or history held on the platform side. None of those live in the metadata layer, and cleaning again will not change them.

The full boundaries are in thedisclaimer; if you just want to confirm the file really is clean, use thewatermark check.

Common questions

Will cleaning re-encode the video?
No. Only the metadata boxes at the container layer are rewritten; the H.264 / H.265 stream and the audio tracks are preserved.
Is Photo mode the same as a normal image?
Yes — it reads the C2PA and XMP of the image file, handled exactly like Instagram.
How many times do I need to clean after a CapCut export?
Once is enough, but it has to be after the final export. Opening and saving in CapCut again writes it back.
Why is the cover still flagged after cleaning?
Because the cover may come from a different file, or the platform cached the previous verdict. Try uploading a fresh file.
