Xiaohongshu note images: metadata and AI labels
Compression on Xiaohongshu is strong, but the save-original path and downloaded product images can still deliver a file with its metadata intact. Detection of AI content is tightening too.

Cleaning options
Want to look first? Themetadata inspectorlists every field in the file, so you can see exactly what is there before deciding what to strip.
Heavy compression, but the original-image path may keep metadata
The same image in different slots — feed, story, cover — may be three separate files, and each one has to be handled.
What the platform reads
| Entry point | Notes |
|---|---|
| Note image | Recompressed on upload; most metadata lost |
| Cover | Handled separately; watch for AI markers |
| Product image | Buyers may receive a fuller file |
Pre-upload checklist
- 11. Clean everything before uploading
- 22. Handle the cover separately
- 33. Watch GPS and device details on product images
- 44. Upload that copy, with no editor or forwarding in between
Common traps
- Relying on platform compression
- Using different sources for the cover and the body images
If it is still flagged after cleaning
That means the trigger was never in the file metadata. It could be an invisible pixel-level watermark, the platform's own visual classifier, or history held on the platform side. None of those live in the metadata layer, and cleaning again will not change them.
The full boundaries are in thedisclaimer; if you just want to confirm the file really is clean, use thewatermark check.
Common questions
Does Xiaohongshu label AI content?
Detection and labelling are gradually tightening, and the specifics keep changing.
Is the metadata still there after compression?
Most of it is lost, but that is not controllable — and quality is already gone.
What matters most on product images?
GPS and device details are the practical risk.
