Metadata in CapCut video exports and covers
CapCut leaves the editor and template names in the container. The cover is the trickier part: it is a separate JPG, and cleaning the video does nothing for it.

Video container plus a separate cover JPG — both need handling
Different export paths can write different things. The reliable approach is to inspect one sample before batch processing.
Where it writes
| Location | Notes |
|---|---|
| MP4 container | Editor, template and export tool strings in udta |
| Cover JPG | A separate file carrying EXIF and XMP |
| TikTok upload | The video and the cover are read separately |
Pre-upload checklist
- 11. Clean the container after exporting the MP4
- 22. Run the cover JPG through the image cleaner
- 33. Verify both before uploading
- 44. Upload that copy, with no editor or forwarding in between
Common traps
- Cleaning the video but not the cover — the classic cause
- Opening and saving in CapCut again after cleaning
If it is still flagged after cleaning
That means the trigger was never in the file metadata. It could be an invisible pixel-level watermark, the platform's own visual classifier, or history held on the platform side. None of those live in the metadata layer, and cleaning again will not change them.
The full boundaries are in thedisclaimer; if you just want to confirm the file really is clean, use thewatermark check.
Common questions
Why is it still flagged when the video is clean?
Because the cover is a separate file and may still carry metadata.
Will it re-encode the video?
No. Only the container metadata boxes are rewritten.
Are template names removed too?
Yes — the strings in udta go with the whole block.
