Cleaning options
How it differs from the AI metadata remover
The engine is identical; only the defaults and the framing differ. This page is for the “I just want the photo clean” case — selling something second-hand, posting to social, sending to a work group, delivering to a client. No AI label has to be involved.
| Data | Default here | Why |
|---|---|---|
| EXIF (incl. GPS, device, time) | Removed | The main target of a privacy clean |
| XMP | Removed | May hold prompts, but also copyright and ratings |
| IPTC (title, keywords, credit) | Removed | Fields written by publishing systems |
| C2PA | Removed | Provenance signature, rarely worth carrying outward |
| ICC colour profile | Kept | Removing it shifts how colours display |
When to clean, and when not to
- Clean it: public posting, second-hand sales, sending to strangers, submissions, platform uploads.
- Do not clean it: evidence retention, archival, deliveries that must keep a shooting record, copyright enforcement.
- Both: keep an untouched master locally and send out a cleaned copy — the safest arrangement there is.
Common questions
Will cleaning damage the file?
No. Only metadata segments are removed; all image data and coding tables stay. The engine was verified against real files: the cleaned output still decodes, with identical dimensions and pixels.
Can the removed information be recovered?
No. Once a block is removed it cannot be recovered from the file — which is exactly why keeping an original copy matters.
Does it support RAW?
No. Supported formats are JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and HEIC. RAW formats such as CR3, NEF and ARW differ structurally and are out of scope.
Why not GIF?
GIF has very limited metadata support — only a comment extension — so the practical value is low. Most GIFs are animations, where the benefit of cleaning does not justify the risk.
Can I send it on WeChat right after cleaning?
You can, but WeChat recompresses and rewrites metadata again. If the goal is that the sent file carries nothing, pick “original” when sending, or transfer it as a file.
