Behance portfolios and metadata
On a portfolio platform metadata is not just a privacy question: peers read your settings, clients read your toolchain. Some take it as reference, others take it as leverage.

Cleaning options
Want to look first? Themetadata inspectorlists every field in the file, so you can see exactly what is there before deciding what to strip.
Read by peers and clients; metadata shapes professional perception
The same image in different slots — feed, story, cover — may be three separate files, and each one has to be handled.
What the platform reads
| Entry point | Notes |
|---|---|
| Project image | Keeps more of the original information |
| Cover | Uploaded separately, and carries metadata too |
| Process shots | Often carry the full EXIF and software fields |
Pre-upload checklist
- 11. Decide which settings to keep and which to strip
- 22. If you want peers to see lens data, use the AI-only mode
- 33. Clean everything if you would rather not expose your toolchain
- 44. Upload that copy, with no editor or forwarding in between
Common traps
- A full clean removing the shooting settings you wanted to show
- Forgetting the software fields inside process shots
If it is still flagged after cleaning
That means the trigger was never in the file metadata. It could be an invisible pixel-level watermark, the platform's own visual classifier, or history held on the platform side. None of those live in the metadata layer, and cleaning again will not change them.
The full boundaries are in thedisclaimer; if you just want to confirm the file really is clean, use thewatermark check.
Common questions
Can I clean only part of it?
Yes. The default cleans everything; you can also strip just C2PA / XMP and keep the camera EXIF.
Do peers really read metadata?
They do. The audience on a portfolio platform is exactly the group that understands these fields.
Does cleaning change the image?
No, only the file header changes.
