Pinterest AI labels and distribution limits
Pinterest takes provenance data more seriously than most platforms: a hit on C2PA or AI-related XMP can limit distribution, not merely add a label.

Cleaning options
Want to look first? Themetadata inspectorlists every field in the file, so you can see exactly what is there before deciding what to strip.
Sensitive to C2PA / XMP; may limit distribution rather than merely label
The same image in different slots — feed, story, cover — may be three separate files, and each one has to be handled.
What the platform reads
| Entry point | Notes |
|---|---|
| Pin image | Reads C2PA and XMP; a hit can reduce distribution |
| Product Pin | Product photos often carry both IPTC and XMP |
| Idea Pin | Multiple pages, each an independent file |
Pre-upload checklist
- 11. Clean C2PA and XMP — the default options already cover both
- 22. Clean every page of an Idea Pin separately
- 33. Watch the AI attribution fields in IPTC on product photos
- 44. Upload that copy, with no editor or forwarding in between
Common traps
- Cleaning only the first page and uploading the rest as they are
- Product photos supplied by a vendor, carrying their tooling details
If it is still flagged after cleaning
That means the trigger was never in the file metadata. It could be an invisible pixel-level watermark, the platform's own visual classifier, or history held on the platform side. None of those live in the metadata layer, and cleaning again will not change them.
The full boundaries are in thedisclaimer; if you just want to confirm the file really is clean, use thewatermark check.
Common questions
Can Pinterest limit distribution?
It is possible. Pinterest is sensitive to provenance data and the policy shifts; cleaning is the most direct response.
Does every page of an Idea Pin need cleaning?
Yes. Each page is a separate file, and the tool handles 30 per batch, which is plenty.
Does cleaning affect image quality?
No. Only the header is rewritten; pixels are unchanged.
