Claude Code
Anthropic's programming agent tool can read the entire codebase, directly modify files and run commands. It can take on the entire work of defect repair and cross-day migration. Terminals, editors, chat software and web pages are all its entry points.

What is Claude Code?
Most AI programming tools just give you a snippet of code, but Claude Code takes direct action: it reads your codebase, modifies files, and runs commands. The official description is straightforward—hand it a bug fix, a test, or a migration that would take days to run, and you monitor, check, and adjust in the terminal, editor, chat app, or web interface. It’s more like a colleague sitting beside you than a completion plugin, as evident from the conversation process demonstrated on the official website: it first reproduces the problem, identifies the root cause, and then presents the changes.
Who is it for?
- Developers who need to perform refactoring, migrations, and write tests in real repositories.
- Engineers who work in the terminal every day and are used to the command line rather than a graphical interface.
- People who want to monitor multiple agents working at the same time and need a single person to coordinate them.
- Teams that want to assign tasks directly in issues and have the results fed back into the collaboration process in the form of PRs.
Key features
6Understand the entire codebase
The official lists three typical tasks: "Get started with new code", "Turn issues into PRs", and "Run hours-long refactoring and migration".
Multi-platform access
macOS, Linux, Windows clients, as well as Terminal, Web, iOS, Android, GitHub, VS Code, JetBrains, Slack.
From Plan to PR
Projects can group related conversations and run and oversee multiple agents at the same time (desktop version).
Artifacts
Turn ongoing work into interactive real-time previews for easy sharing with your team.
Long-task Mode
Auto mode becomes the default for Pro, Max, and Team plans, allowing it to work for extended periods while blocking high-risk commands.
Self-hosted environment
Sessions can be run on your own infrastructure and network, and the official note indicates that this feature is currently in the beta testing phase.
How to use Claude Code
- The official pricing page includes Claude Code in the Pro plan: $18 per month for annual billing (a one-time $220 fee), $22 per month for monthly billing.
- higher usage tiers also include Max 5x and Max 20x.
- Prices are subject to change—check the official website before subscribing.
- When installing, first read the documentation and confirm whether you are on macOS, Linux, or Windows.
- all three platforms are supported but have different details.
- For the first task, give it a small, well-defined assignment, such as a reproducible bug.
- First observe which files it reads and which lines it modifies, build trust, and then scale up the task.
- For high-risk operations such as database migrations and deployment scripts, be sure to manually review the commands before approving them.
- do not fully entrust them to Auto mode.
- Features such as self-hosted environments and Projects are still evolving.
- Before your team relies on them, verify whether they fall within the scope of your solution.
