What is Gliglish?
Gliglish is an AI language speaking tool created by Fabien Snauwaert, an independent French developer. Its official website advocates learning languages by talking to artificial intelligence. Users can have conversations with virtual teachers and also practice real-life scenarios; the product also provides pronunciation, suggestions, explanations, translations and grammar feedback, with the focus on lowering the threshold for beginners to speak up and continue conversations.
Who is it for?
- Foreign language learners who know quite a few words but are afraid to speak and hope to have a low-pressure conversation partner every day.
- Students and professionals who need to rehearse real-life scenarios for travel, shopping, interviews, or work communication.
- Beginners who need adjustable speaking speed, asking questions in their native language, and transcription support to learn a new writing system from scratch.
- Schools and universities that want to add after-class speaking practice to their classes, as well as corporate teams that need language training.
Key features
6Talk to a teacher and Roleplay real-life situations
You can have teacher-like conversations and also practice real-life scenarios, putting your language knowledge into continuous-response communication.
Audio Anywhere
You can practice by speaking, and tap any word to replay its pronunciation, making it ideal for confirming your auditory perception at any time during a conversation.
Suggestions & Adjustable Speed
Get suggestions for the next sentence when you get stuck, and adjust the speaking speed faster or slower according to your learning level to reduce the problem of not keeping up with the conversation in the beginner stage.
Multilingual speech recognition
You can ask questions in your native language about the target language, which is more user-friendly for beginners who have just started learning and cannot fully explain their difficulties in the target language yet.
Explain everything, Translations and Transliterations
Tap on a word to view contextual explanations and translations, and transcription support is also provided for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai and Greek.
Feedback on grammar and pronunciation
You get grammar corrections after you speak; pronunciation scoring is currently in beta and the official website notes that it is temporarily limited to American English.
How to use Gliglish
- Pick one specific scenario each time.
- Complete the first round without looking at the suggestions, then enable the sentence continuation prompts to practice again, and check if you can express yourself independently.
- If you can't hear clearly, first slow down the speed and click the words to replay them.
- After understanding, gradually restore the normal speed and don't stay in overly slow speech for a long time.
- Organize your grammar feedback into a list of your frequent mistakes and proactively use correct sentence patterns in your next conversation, which is more effective than just reviewing the corrections once.
- Pronunciation scoring currently covers only American English and is still a beta feature.
- the results are meant to serve as practice clues and should not be taken as proof of formal language proficiency.
- The official website notes that the free plan offers 10 minutes per day and has a message limit per conversation.
- prices and availability are subject to change.
- check the recording, subscription and school plans before use.
