What is Elements of AI?
Elements of AI is a free online course series created jointly by MinnaLearn and the University of Helsinki. Its goal is to help non-professional learners understand what artificial intelligence is, what it can and cannot do, and how artificial intelligence methods can be initially built. Instead of focusing on the operation of a specific generative tool, it organizes concepts, the boundaries of capabilities, social impacts, and basic approaches into a systematic learning path.
Who is it for?
- Ordinary learners and professionals who want to understand the basic concepts and boundaries of artificial intelligence but have no technical background.
- College students and career changers who need to build a conceptual framework first before deciding whether to study machine learning or programming.
- Teachers, trainers and managers who need to prepare public introductory materials for classrooms, communities or teams.
- Enterprise learning and development teams that want to improve employees' AI literacy and unify the internal discussion language of the organization.
Key features
6Introduction to AI
The first part focuses on the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, helping learners establish common concepts instead of starting directly with programming or complex mathematics.
Building AI
The second part further introduces the methods of building artificial intelligence, enabling those who have grasped the basics to continue to understand how the technology is developed.
Our goal is to demystify AI
The official website clearly aims to demystify AI, discussing how artificial intelligence impacts work and life, as well as its potential future development.
Free online course for non-experts
The course entry does not require learners to be professionals initially; it is suitable for systematically building up AI literacy from scratch.
AI Literacy for yourself
It provides a path for developing personal AI literacy and features a concise entry point for literacy learning, enabling those with limited time to build a basic understanding.
AI Literacy for your staff & Certifications
The official website also offers literacy training for corporate employees, and provides relevant access to obtaining certificates and organizing training sessions.
How to use Elements of AI
- Study in the order of "Introduction to AI" to "Building AI", first clarify the concepts and boundaries, then deal with the methodological content, and do not skip reading just for the certificate.
- After finishing each section, use an example from your own work to explain what AI can and cannot do, so that you can avoid memorizing terms without being able to judge their applications.
- When encountering algorithmic or probability content, first understand the problem and intuition, then fill in the mathematical details.
- the value of a non-expert course lies in building the right framework, not in pursuing quick development.
- Separate the course's perspectives from the performance of current tools.
- product capabilities change rapidly, but fundamental issues such as data, models, limitations, and responsibilities are worth continuous review.
- Unify the country or region-specific entry points when organizing training.
- certificates, language versions and corporate course arrangements may vary.
- Refer to the latest pages on the official website before implementation.
