What is CodeBuddy?
CodeBuddy (Tencent Cloud Code Assistant) is an AI-assisted programming tool launched by Tencent Cloud. Its official positioning is "an AI-based full-process intelligent programming tool", aiming to deeply integrate AI into the complete link from product conception to online release, forming an environment for seamless collaboration in product, design, research and development and deployment. Different from common "completion plug-ins", it provides three product forms at the same time: CodeBuddy IDE focusing on "programming through conversation", a plug-in version built into VS Code / JetBrains series, and CodeBuddy Code command-line tool for DevOps and operation and maintenance.
Who is it for?
- Product managers, designers, and full-stack developers who want to start projects from scratch using the "conversation is programming" approach.
- Developers who are used to existing editors such as VS Code, IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, GoLand, Xcode, etc., and only want to install a plug-in to assist in coding.
- DevOps engineers, operations personnel, and SREs who need to integrate AI into CI/CD and orchestrate batch tasks via the command line.
- Programming beginners: The official lists "zero-based users" as one of the target groups, and it can serve as a helper for the onboarding stage.

How to use CodeBuddy
- First decide which form you need: choose an IDE for building a project from scratch, a plugin for adding assistance to existing projects, or CLI for automation and scripting scenarios (`npm install -g @tencent-ai/codebuddy-code`, requires Node.js 18.0+).
- The official offers a free trial version: it includes 500 points per month, 5,000 real-time code completions and 3 automated tasks, and many benefits are marked as "free trial".
- It is recommended to first use the trial version to complete a real small project before deciding whether to pay for it.
- The domestic and international versions have separate entry points and billing systems (codebuddy.cn / codebuddy.ai), with different prices and benefits.
- Confirm which version you are using before making a purchase.
- Some benefits (daily active rewards, temporarily increased code completion quota, model usage permissions) are explicitly labeled as "limited-time activities" by the official team and are subject to change at any time.
- Do not treat free trial credits as a long-term commitment.
- Code and requirement documents will be included in the cloud-based conversation context.
- For team collaboration or when involving sensitive repositories, please first read the Terms of Service and the Enterprise Privacy Policy to confirm the compliance boundaries.
